Beschrijving

Topographical pencil drawing of 1921, signed ‘Eug.Rensburg 1921’, showing a bridge over the Lee near De Lier in the Westland — characteristic of the dated and location-inscribed drawings with which Rensburg recorded the Netherlands.

The sheet belongs to the large body of topographical drawings that form the basis of his reputation as a chronicler: composed on the spot, furnished with date and place, intended as a lasting record. It was precisely in this medium — pencil and pen, later etching — that contemporary critics praised his construction and exactness most.

Provenance: documented via schildersvanhetwestland.nl — gallery documentation.
