Description

Watercolour of the church of Ransdorp, signed lower right ‘Eug Rensburg’ — the characteristic unfinished brick tower of the Waterland village north of Amsterdam, with farmhouse, haystack and trees in a loose, washed touch.

The work was documented on the gallery’s earlier website as ‘Ransdorp 1925’. The region suited his lasting attention for Amsterdam and the Zuiderzee area: in a letter of 1914 to his brother, the poet Jacques Karel Rensburg, he wrote about fourteen etchings of Amsterdam, Marken and Volendam — the same Waterland to which Ransdorp belongs.

Provenance: gallery documentation.
